More than 40 people a day die from taking too many prescription painkillers like oxycontin, according to the CDC. Yet the California Medical Board took action against only 14 of the state’s 137,500 doctors last year, for excessive prescribing.
A San Francisco Bay-area physician was sentenced to 4 years in state prison last week for operating a sham clinic – referred to in legal circles as a “pill mill” – and killing a patient.
Dr Jasna Mrdjen
Doctor Jasna Mrdjen, age 74, was found guilty of Involuntary Manslaughter in the death of a patient in 2012. Prosecutors were able to prove that the patient – who had just been released from a rehabilitation center – was prescribed hundreds of doses of narcotics, and died as the direct result of the drugs she issued.
Investigators discovered that lab coat loon Mrdjen routinely wrote out “excessive, high-dosage prescriptions for addictive narcotics”.
Mrdjen, a resident of Mountain View, was convicted last September of the following:
- 1 count – Involuntary Manslaughter in the death of 29-year-old Steven English
- 9 counts – Prescribing Controlled Substances to persons with no medical need
- 2 counts – Dispensing Controlled Substances to an addict
- 1 count – Conspiracy
Prosecutors told the court that the doctor was well aware that at least some of her so-called “patients” were reselling the pills on the streets for profit, and she knew that some of them were being routinely arrested by law enforcement. She just didn’t care.
Jasna Mrdjen is an immigrant from Croatia. She attended the University of Zagreb Faculty of Medicine. She is a pluperfect example of what we call a Third World Assassin.
