“In public, Moschetto was a respected member of his community, but in private he collected dangerous assault weapons, illegally sold prescription drugs to fund his arsenal, and plotted to murder another cardiologist over a business disagreement.” (District Attorney Madeline Singas)
In New York State a Long Island heart specialist has confessed in court to Conspiracy to Commit Murder, according to Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas.
Doctor Anthony J Moschetto, age 56, operated a cardiology clinic in the town of Great Neck at the time of his arrest. He changed his ‘not guilty’ plea to ‘guilty’ before state Supreme Court Justice Christopher Quinn. In addition to Conspiracy, the charges included First Degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon; Criminal Sale of Narcotics and Arson – all as part of the 77-count indictment he faced last November.
The prosecution said the murder conspiracy was discovered when an undercover investigation involving the purchase of Oxycodone pills, led to undercover purchases of assault weapons and dynamite.
The investigation revealed that the assault weapons and prescriptions were acquired and transferred by Moschetto, who planned to pay for arson and murder of a fellow cardiologist.
A search of the doctor’s home on April 2015, led to the discovery of a cache of weapons, found in a secret basement room hidden by a moving bookshelf.
In court the doctor admitted to providing money for the arson and assault; how and where the murder should take place; information on the other doctor’s location, and possessing more than 10 illegal weapons.
This particular lab coat maniac faces sentencing on December 16.
