According to Vigo County Sheriff’s Department, Nurse Kelly Ecker, age 50, had actually dialed 911 three times around 1:15 in the morning, in desperate calls for help. She told the police dispatcher that her husband had beaten her and was threatening to do so again. But by the time police got to the home the bride and groom lay dead from gunshot wounds. Investigators believe the murder-suicide occurred at about 1:30 a.m.
Chief Deputy Clark Cottom said, “Kelly was shot multiple times in the chest and head with a 45-caliber handgun. Her husband was found in another part of the house with a single wound to the head.”
Doctor Ecker’s 10-year-old son found his mother’s body. An elderly female relative in the home at the time of the shootings was also unharmed.
The body of Samson, age 54, was found near a gun safe in the basement with self-inflicted gunshot wound. Sampson had worked as an anesthesiologist in the surgery department at Union Hospital. Kelly Sampson worked there, too, as a registered nurse in the ICU.
