Massacre at McDonald’s
It was 3:58 in the afternoon on the 18th day of July when a madman calmly walked into a South San Diego McDonald’s and opened fire on a room full of diners. For an hour and nineteen minutes he continued his rampage. It would finally come to an end when SWAT sniper Officer Charles Foster, positioned on the rooftop of a post office nearby, stopped the insanity by firing one shot from his high-powered rifle through a gaping hole in the restaurant window.
James Oliver Huberty, a 41-year-old misfit, would vent his rage at society for more than an hour before his life would come to an abrupt end at 5:17pm. Before our day ended, however, we would tag 21 men, women and kids dead as they lay and treat 19 folks with gunshot wounds.
And tomorrow we would learn that what we had all just experienced was the single worst civilian massacre in modern U.S. history.
