Child Porn Conviction? Yes. Can I Get My Medical License Back? But of Course

Dr James H Peak

A Montana psychiatrist released from prison after a child pornography conviction, had his medical license reinstated on June 9 of this year.

Doctor James Peak, age 54 of Billings, was issued a “lifetime probationary license” by the state board of medical examiners. The license has restrictions and is limited to adults only.

Peak’s license was suspended two years ago after he confessed to unprofessional conduct. He was convicted in 2011 of possession of child pornography in U.S. District Court. He was released from prison in November 2012.

Under the conditions of his license, he will be supervised by another psychiatrist, Doctor Thomas Van Dyk of Billings. He must also disclose his probationary status, treatment for sexual addiction and status as a sexual offender to his patients.

Our Observations:

So when should an adult with a medical degree be banned from playing with other peoples’ bodies and minds?

How about we just draw this simple line in the sand: when it takes a babysitter to keep them out of trouble.

Physician discipline ain’t rocket science. We just like to think it is.
