In Cleveland Ohio Federal Court seven doctors were charged this week with illegally importing cancer medications that were never approved by the Federal Drug Administration.
The physicians, all cancer specialists, caused the shipment of ‘misbranded drugs,’ which is a criminal violation of the Food, Drug & Cosmetic Act.
The following doctors face federal indictments:
> Su-Chiao Kuo, age 60 of Brunswick
> Poornanand Palaparty, age 62 of Cleveland
> Marwan Massouh, age 54 of Westlake
> Hassan Tahsildar, age 55 of Euclid
> Timmappa Bidari, age 68 of Parma
> Ranjan Bhandari, age 56 of Liverpool
> David Fishman, age 62 of Euclid
U.S. Attorney Steven Dettelbach, who is prosecuting the case, said this:
“These doctors used drugs that had not been approved by the FDA. Our office is committed to making sure patients are getting medicine that has been properly inspected.”
According to the court record, the list of unapproved drugs include Zometa, Kytril, Taxotere, Gemzar and Eloxatin.
“These drugs came from Canada,” said U.S. Attorney Steven Dettelbach.
Each of the seven physicians could get one year in federal prison and a $100,000 fine.
