Child Porn Collector Doctor Denied Shorter Sentence

In Atlanta, Georgia the federal appeals court has decided that an 8-year prison sentence imposed against a Cobb County doctor in March was not excessive, and upheld the sentence.

Doctor Andrew Sutton, an ear, nose & throat specialist, who had pleaded guilty to child pornography charges in December 2011, was challenging the length of his prison sentence. But upon review, the appeals court said Sutton’s offense of production of child pornography on the internet, was “particularly serious.” In support of the decision, the court noted that Sutton had routinely engaged in numerous online conversations with children and even their parents, trying to persuade them to engage in sex acts and to then send him nude photos.

U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian-Yates said, “The possession of sexually explicit images of children is a serious crime. This doctor went beyond possession, when he distributed these images online, with the hope of receiving additional sexually explicit materials to add to his collection.”
